Stephen Colbert got stood up last night when Daft Punk bailed on his satirical news show. The electronic duo was scheduled to perform on The Colbert Report, but pulled out at the last minute due to the MTV VMAs, where they are making a surprise appearance (not such a surprise anymore though.)
Colbert announced during Tuesday night’s broadcast that his crew “booked Click and Clack over here about a month ago,” but apparently didn’t take into consideration their appearance at MTV’s upcoming event.
“Apparently, Daft Punk are going to make a surprise appearance on the MTV Video Music Awards. Don’t tell anyone, because fun fact: No one told me until two hours ago.”
Daft Punk was slated to appear on the talk show Tuesday night, but was forced to cancel due to contractual obligations of appearing on the MTV VMAs on Aug. 25. MTV and Comedy Central (which airs The Colbert Report) share the same owner, Viacom.
But Colbert made the best of it. He shared a clip in which he dances to Daft Punk’s hit single “Get Lucky” with celebrities like Bryan Cranston, Matt Damon, Jeff Bridges, Hugh Laurie and Jimmy Fallon. This sort of contradicts what Colbert said about finding out the duo pulled out just hours before his show started, but we’ll give him the benefit of the doubt.
What do you think?
