If you can recall, on January 21, during the ceremony celebrating the inauguration of Barack Obama for his second term as the President of the United States, it somehow became a news item that Beyonce had lip synched her performance of the Star-Spangled Banner (because, you know, Obama being reelected wasn’t news or anything). And so, and panicked and trembling nation had to know: will Beyonce lip synch at this year’s Super Bowl as well? Will she once again betray us all?
According to Beyonce, the answer is no. After going through a show off-y version of the Star Spangled Banner during a press conference today (because she assumed we all thought she couldn’t sing?), Beyonce assured a shaky, nervous America that she would indeed be singing live during her entire Super Bowl halftime performance:
“I will absolutely be singing live. I am well-rehearsed. I will absolutely be singing live, and this is what I was born to do.”
Further, she insisted that the choice to lip synch during the inauguration came due to technical issues:
“I am a perfectionist, and one thing about me, I practice until my feet bleed. And I did not have time to rehearse with the orchestra… Due to the weather, due to the delay, due to no proper sound-check, I did not feel comfortable taking a risk.”
She also noted that she was “very proud” of her ability to make her mouth move along to a prerecorded track.
What do you think of the Beyonce news?
