Lady Gaga Surpasses 20 Million Followers On Twitter

Pop star extends her record-breaking Twitter dominance over second-place holder Justin Bieber.

<P><a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/lady_gaga/artist.jhtml">Lady Gaga</a> is known for her prolific Internet presence, and now she can lay claim to another achievement: She's the first person to pass 20 million followers on <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/ladygaga" target="_blank">Twitter</a>. </P><P> </P><P>Mother Monster has yet to acknowledge the feat on her social network of choice, but, on February 9, when she noticed her number of followers eclipsed 19 million, she good-naturedly <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/ladygaga/status/167686723906703360" target="_blank">tweeted</a>, "19 Million Followers!!! HOLY HOOKER!!! *goes back to work*" </P><P> </P><P>Like many celebrities, Gaga has used Twitter to forge a closer relationship with her fans as well as make announcements about her career and respond to criticism, as she recently did when British music magazine <i>NME</i> named her hit album <i>Born This Way</i> the <a href="/news/articles/1679839/lady-gaga-most-pretentious-albums-born-this-way.jhtml">Most Pretentious Album Ever</a>. </P><P> </P><P>Gaga has been the most followed person on Twitter since August 2010, when she blasted past <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/spears_britney/artist.jhtml">Britney Spears</a> for the title when she reached 5.6 million followers. </P><P> </P><P>Spears now enjoys 13.6 million followers, making her the seventh most-followed person on the network. Currently in third place is Katy Perry with 15.7 million followers. Shakira (14.5 million) and Rihanna (14.5 million) are not far behind. </P><P> </P><P>The only person within spitting distance of Gaga on Twitter is <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/bieber_justin/artist.jhtml">Justin Bieber</a>. The recent <a href="/news/articles/1680248/justin-bieber-birthday-gifts.jhtml">birthday boy</a> has just over 18 million followers. He is, however, a far more prolific tweeter than Gaga; the <a href="http://www.latimes.com/business/technology/la-fi-tn-lady-gaga-20-million-followers-twitter-20120305,0,4076491.story" target="_blank"><i>Los Angeles Times</i></a> notes that he has sent out 10 times as many tweets as the "Born This Way" diva. </P><P> </P><P>Gaga also enjoys a massive following on <a href="http://www.facebook.com/ladygaga" target="_blank">Facebook</a>, where she's been "liked" by nearly 49 million people. But Mother Monster cannot claim being the boss on Facebook. That title belongs to <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/rihanna/artist.jhtml">Rihanna</a>, who has been liked by nearly 53 million individuals.</p>

Justin Bieber Takes A Few Punches For Complex

<P><a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/bieber_justin/artist.jhtml">Justin Bieber</a> appears bloodied and beat up on the cover of <a href="http://www.complex.com/music/2012/03/justin-bieber-cover-story/page/1" target="_blank"><i>Complex</i></a> magazine, and it's a far cry from the Biebs' well-groomed image. </P><P> </P><P>Inside the April/May issue, the 18-year-old opens up about his childhood and his very public relationship with girlfriend Selena Gomez. He also discusses his upcoming <a href="/news/articles/1680373/justin-bieber-believe-album.jhtml">album, <i>Believe,</i></a> pledging that it's "go big or go home" once it drops later this year. </P><P> </P><P>"I feel like it's my responsibility to be the greatest I can be," the magazine cover boy says. "If I start making terrible music, I don't expect people to like me. If I'm making great music and there's no reason for people to dislike me, that's when it's going to make me upset. People just need to take a chance and listen. If they don't want to take a chance, then I don't know. That's going to be the biggest problem: to make them feel like it's cool for them to like my music." </P><P> </P><P>Bieber hopes the new album will show his growth. Will Black Keys Team Up With Ke$ha? First They Want Jim Nabors

The duo sat down with MTV News in Berlin to discuss a pair of unlikely collaborations.

<P>Theirs is a relationship that has spanned time and Twitter, <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/keshasuxx/status/77286418598211584" target="_blank">seafood</a> and <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/keshasuxx/status/157523381602889728" target="_blank">shaving</a>, but over the years, the unlikely bond between the <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/black_keys/artist.jhtml">Black Keys</a> and <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/id_3213641/artist.jhtml">Ke$ha</a> has grown to become something <i>more</i>: a genuine friendship, marked with the occasional trespassing charge. </P><P> </P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Would The Black Keys Ever Collaborate With Ke$ha?" id="vid:731631.id:1678505" width="240" height="211"></div><p> </P><P> </P><P>"We're friends with her, we've known her since way before she was famous, before she was even a singer, I guess," Keys drummer Patrick Carney told MTV News. "When she was 16 years old, she used to sneak into our shows. We kind of became friends with her by kicking her out of our backstage room, over and over again. She actually has snuck into shows in L.A., San Diego, Coachella ..." </P><P> </P><P>"She snuck in and [got] kicked out of one show, like, <i>five</i> times," frontman Dan Auerbach added. "[She] snuck in through the kitchen. I don't know if she's such a big fan; she just likes breaking the rules." </P><P> </P><P>So, when MTV News sat down with the 'Keys in Berlin during the premiere of their <a href="/news/articles/1678662/black-keys-gold-on-the-ceiling-music-video.jhtml">"Gold on the Ceiling"</a> video, we had to ask if their friendship with Ke$ha would take the next step: an actual musical collaboration. It's not all that far-fetched, considering both Ke$h and Auerbach live in Nashville ("I see her every once in a while flying by in her T-Top [convertible]," Auerbach laughed), and recently, the glittery one has logged studio time with <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/keshasuxx/status/160846424609787906" target="_blank">the Flaming Lips</a>. So, could we see a team-up on the next Black Keys album? </P><P> </P><P>"I guess, I don't know," Carney said. "We don't really do that many collaborations, really." </P><P> </P><P>OK, so if a Ke$ha collabo isn't in the cards, just who would the 'Keys like to work with next? Well, as it turns out, they've got their eyes set on landing a very big star for the next record ... even if they mistakenly believe he's deceased. </P><P> </P><P>"We both want to work with Jim Nabors very badly, but apparently he's not with us anymore," Carney said. </P><P>Oh, <a href="http://www.jimnabors.com/" target="_blank">but he is.</a> Which means that, much like Nabors, the dream is alive. Rape Claims Continue to Haunt Rapper Sean Kingston

Bum rap or bad rapper? Sean Kingston and members of his posse are being accused of raping a young woman in the singer’s Seattle hotel room in 2010. The alleged victim has filed a $5 million civil lawsuit but Kingston denies any wrongdoing.

Attorneys for the 23-year Jamaican point out that authorities previously dropped criminal charges stemming from the same incident, due to lack of credible evidence.

Still, 22-year-old Carissa Capeloto insists that the rapper forced her to have sex with him, his bodyguard, and a member of his band after she smoked pot and downed as many as ten shots of vodka.

Capeloto alleges she'd been invited to Kingston's hotel room for a meet-and-greet following a concert but when she showed up Kingston was waiting naked on his bed. Capeloto then claims the bodyguard picked her up and placed her on top of Kingston, and all three of the men proceeded to gang rape her while she was "obviously intoxicated, incapable of consent."

Capeloto says her friend later entered the room, rescued her, and then her to a hospital where she says she was treated for physical injuries consistent with rape. Kingston has filed legal docs insisting the sex was consensual.

'Girl With The Dragon Tattoo' Track List Revealed

First single from Trent Reznor/ Atticus Ross soundtrack is Karen O cover of Led Zeppelin song.

<P>You kind of can't go wrong when the soundtrack you've put together for one of the most eagerly anticipated literary adaptations in years kicks off <a href="/music/artist/yeah_yeah_yeahs/artist.jhtml">Yeah Yeah Yeahs</a> singer Karen O's take on <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/led_zeppelin/artist.jhtml">Led Zeppelin</a>'s "Immigrant Song." </P><P> </P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" id="vid:693384" width="240" height="211"></div><p> </P><P> </P><P>Fans heard the throbbing industrial take on the rock classic cooked up by former Nine Inch Nails mastermind and O when a trailer for the David Fincher-directed "Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" leaked back in May. And on Thursday, Oscar-winning industrial-rocker-turned-film composer Reznor and musical partner Atticus Ross unveiled the full track list for their "Tattoo" score album. </P><P> </P><P>The follow-up to their award-winning "The Social Network" score was a labor of love, according to a <a href="http://nin.com/?id=102677" target="_blank">post</a> Reznor put up on the NIN site on Thursday announcing the disc. "For the last fourteen months Atticus and I have been hard at work on David Fincher's 'The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo,' " he wrote about the American version of the tale of pierced and punished hacker <a href="/news/articles/1655879/rooney-mara-dragon-tattoo.jhtml">Lisbeth Salander (Rooney Mara)</a> and her muckraking journalist compatriot <a href="/news/articles/1667542/daniel-craig-rooney-mara-girl-with-the-dragon-tattoo.jhtml">Mikael Blomkvist (Daniel Craig)</a>. "We laughed, we cried, we lost our minds and in the process made some of the most beautiful and disturbing music of our careers. Prior to embarking on a huge round of promotions for “Breaking Dawn - Part 2,” Ashley Greene and her boyfriend Reeve Carney have decided to part ways.

The couple dated for about a year before their schedules simply became too hectic, according to an US Weekly source.

Previously, the 25-year-old actress was linked to Joe Jonas while her now ex-boyfriend dated Jennifer Damiano, his costar in Broadway’s “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark.”

Currently, the “Twilight” star is enjoying time in South Africa. On Tuesday she tweeted, “Asked for asparagus today… Only in Africa can your server answer ‘The monkeys broke in and stole it last night.’”

Clint Eastwood & Wife Dina Call it Quits After Almost 17 Years of Marriage

After nearly two decades together, Clint Eastwood and his wife Dina have decided to officially call it quits on their romance.

The former "Mrs. Eastwood & Company" star confirmed the news to Us Weekly, also dishing that the two have lived separately for quite some time but do remain friends.

Speaking about their gradually failing relationship, an insider explained, “Clint fell out of love with Dina a long time ago.”

Clint and Dina, who have one daughter together, Morgan, 16, married back on March 31, 1996.

News Roundup: 2 Chains Ends Up In Chains, Drake Releases Album Cover Art, and More

Rapper 2 Chainz ended up in chains last night after a standoff with Oklahoma City police. Word is they were prevented from climbing aboard the rapper’s tour bus without a search warrant. We have more details on that below. Also, Drake has released the cover art for his upcoming album Nothing Was The Same. All that and more below.

• Pandora Changes Strategies: Pandora is changing strategies once again. The music streaming site announced Thursday it will no longer enforce its “mobile listening cap” (which was implemented earlier this year) as of September 1st. The company also revealed two new “cost-saving measures” – a sleep timer and a limit of song skips within a 24-hour period. Now you will only be able to skip 12 songs in a rolling 24-hour period. Pandora has also debuted a “sleep timer,” in which the app automatically shuts off music after a certain period of time. Source: Billboard
  

• 2 Chainz Gets Arrested In Oklahoma: 2 Chainz’ and 10 others on his tour bus were arrested last night in Oklahoma by city police. TMZ reports that the arrests were due to interference with official procedures as the bus driver reportedly got out of the bus and locked the door, preventing officers from entering without a warrant. It is still unknown whether there are drug charges involved.

• Pearl Jam Releases New Music Video: Pearl Jam has released a music video for their new single “Mind Your Manners,” off their upcoming album Lighting Bolt, which is due out October 15. The clip was directed by famed rock photographer Danny Clitch. Check it out:
  

• Drake Releases Album Cover Art: Drake has revealed the cover art for his upcoming album Nothing Was the Same. Drake’s upcoming set will feature two different covers, an illustration of the rapper as an adult and one as a child (similar to Lil Wayne‘s  Tha Carter III. The album is due Sept. 24.

A decade into her career, the pop megastar reinvented herself this year as the ultimate Femme Fatale and made a big commitment to Jason Trawick.

The singer turned 30 this year, marking the landmark birthday on December 2 with a fan-voted MTV News tournament that crowned <a href="/news/articles/1675289/britney-spears-tournament-winner-30th-birthday.jhtml">the Best Britney Video of All Time</a>. Britney Spears fandom was reenergized as the singer came out of her shell, opening up about this phase in her career as well her personal life in several high-profile interviews. "That was one of those things I was really stoked [about], as much as I went into it like, 'Wow, he's not an actor. Raising Sand, from Led Zeppelin vet and bluegrass superstar, wins five Grammys on Sunday night.

<P>"I'm bewildered," <a href="/music/artist/plant_robert/artist.jhtml">Robert Plant</a> said onstage as he accepted the <MTVNLINK type="news" id="1604580">Grammy Album of the Year award</MTVNLINK> with <a href="/music/artist/krauss_alison/artist.jhtml">Alison Krauss</a> on Sunday night. "In the old days we would have called this selling out, but it's a good way to spend a Sunday." </P><P> </P><P>He was probably one of the few who were surprised, because <i>Raising Sand,</i> which won five trophies at Sunday night's show, is in many ways the perfect <a href="http://www.mtv.com/news/grammys/">Grammy</a> album. It features two respected veterans, a critically lauded producer, some sandpaper-and-velvet vocals and a baker's dozen of time-tested standards.</p><div style="margin: 0px 10px 10px 0px; float: left;"><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:338316" width="256" height="223" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" flashVars="configParams=instance%3Dnews%26vid%3D338316" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="."></embed></div><p> </P><P> </P><P>You're probably familiar with Robert Plant from his <a href="/music/artist/led_zeppelin/artist.jhtml">Led Zeppelin</a> days, and you might be aware of producer T-Bone Burnett's work on the "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" soundtrack (it won the Grammy for Album of the Year in 2002). And if you don't know who Alison Krauss is, she possesses a haunting set of pipes and is one of the meanest fiddle players in the world. Oh, and she's won 21 Grammys, more than any other female artist and the seventh-most in history. </P><P> </P><P>Really, she's the key to <i>Sand</i>'s success, and not just because of her voice (or her fiddle playing). She and Plant first met in 2004, at a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame tribute to legendary bluesman Leadbelly, and the former Zeppelin man was amazed by her knowledge of American Roots music &#8212; so much so that they began kicking around the idea of recording an album together. Three years later, <i>Sand</i> was released. </P><P> </P><P>And while Plant possesses the more famous voice, the album's finest moments radiate from Krauss. Whether she's getting bluesy on Little Milton's "Let Your Loss Be Your Lesson" or entwining with Plant's husky voice on songs like "Please Read the Letter" and Roly Salley's winsome "Killing the Blues," she more than carries her end of the bargain. </P><P> </P><P>And perhaps that's also due to producer Burnett, who handpicked the 13 songs the duo cover on <i>Sand.</i> His arrangements are sparse &#8212; giving the two voices ample room to breathe &#8212; yet dense, warm and crackling at the same time. It's a testament to his work that he's often given just as much billing as Plant and Krauss on the project ... and it's certainly justified. </P><P> </P><P>To date, <i>Sand</i> has sold more than 1 million copies, heaped tons of acclaim and actually earned a Grammy last year &#8212; "Gone Gone Gone (Done Moved On)" took home the award for Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals. </P><P> </P><P>One expert was surprised not by the album's success, but by the fact that it's actually quite a good album. </P><P> </P><P>"At first, the album seemed like a vanity project. ... Two names, clearly a one-off record, didn't have to be any good, you know?" <i>New York Times</i> music critic Jon Caramanica said. "Led Zeppelin fans would buy it because of Robert Plant, Alison Krauss would get a check. But it actually turned out to be a really thoughtful, really <i>good</i> record. So when you combine all that with the fact that the Grammys love to lionize one of their own, I could really see it taking home some awards." </P><P></p>

Is Britney Spears Getting Closer To 'X Factor' Gig?

'I'm fascinated by her,' Cowell says of singer, who's rumored to be contender to join show.

<P>There are several women's names currently being tossed around as potential judges for the upcoming season of "X Factor." Avril Lavigne, <a href="/news/articles/1679730/x-factor-new-judges-hosts.jhtml">Janet Jackson and Britney Spears</a> are the leading rumored contenders to replace <a href="/news/articles/1678191/paula-abdul-exits-x-factor.jhtml">Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul</a> for the show's completely revamped second season, which kicks off later this year. </P><P> </P><P>In a recent press call, Simon Cowell would not confirm who producers were talking to, but he did not deny that Jackson was on the table. </P><P> </P><P>"You can probably count on two girls," fellow judge L.A. Reid added. "That we can confirm." </P><P> </P><P>Cowell recently addressed the Britney buzz on Billy Bush's <a href="http://www.accesshollywood.com/billy-bush/simon-cowell-x-factor-would-be-a-walk-in-the-park-for-britney-spears_articletab_61327" target="_blank">radio show</a>, continuing to play coy about the chatter. "Well, I'm fascinated by her. The fact that she's still one of the most talked-about &#8212; not just pop stars, but people &#8212; in the world today means that you've got this star power. This girl's got resilience, and the fact that she's survived this and she's still hot, she's still having hit records and she's still controversial ... there's a reason for that. </P><P> </P><P>"I would think that if she's managed to sustain a family, a career, which is tough, this is a walk in the park," he added, noting that he believes she would be a good judge. </P><P> </P><P>While Cowell seems to be dancing around the issue, British "X Factor" judge Louis Walsh may have let the cat out of the bag in an <a href="http://www.breatheheavy.com/2012/02/uk-x-factor-judge-confirms-talks-with-britney/?utm_medium=twitter&utm_source=twitterfeed" target="_blank">interview</a> on U.K. talk show "Craig Doyle Live." He shared that Spears was indeed talking to producers about possibly joining the show. </P><P> </P><P>"I know he is talking to Britney. I know he's definitely talking to Britney to do the American show. Absolutely true and maybe Janet Jackson," he said. </P><P> </P><P>In the end, Cowell summed up the current spate of rumors on that conference call. "There's a load of speculation, some true, some not true. It's true to say that a lot more people have entered the frame this year. We were waiting to see who was going to contact us before we actually contacted people," he said last week. "We're in that place right now, which is a good place to be in. We will meet a number of people over the next few weeks, mainly to explain to them that this is a big commitment when you do a show like this because of the mentoring aspect."</p>

Drake Will Rap About Starting From The Bottom At MTV VMAs

Drake will rap about his humble beginnings during the MTV Video Music Awards this coming Sunday. The Canadian rapper has been added to the performers lineup, and is set to perform his single “Started From The Bottom” off his upcoming album Nothing Was The Same.

The video for the song (which you can see below) is up for two awards – best direction and best hip hop video. This performance will mark the second time Drake appears onstage at the VMAs; in 2010, he performed “Fancy.”

Also set to perform are Justin Timberlake, Kanye West, Bruno Mars, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Miley Cyrus, Robin Thicke, Lady Gaga (who opens the show) and Katy Perry (who will close). There have also been some rumors that Timberlake will reunite with his former 90′s boy band, ‘N Sync. There’s also word that Daft Punk will be taking the stage. Reports started after the electronic duo stood up show host Stephen Cobert. DJ Cassidy will be the event’s official DJ.

The MTV VMAs will air this Sunday at 9 p.m. ET/PT on MTV. Here’s the video:

And in other Drake news, the rapper has pushed back the release of Nothing Was the Same. It’ll be out on September 24 instead of September 17. There’s no tracklist yet, but the album is said to feature Jay-Z, Hudson Mohawke and, of course, Lil Wayne.

Hugh Jackman: Fan Favorite in Tokyo

Showing some love to his Japanese fans, Hugh Jackman showed up at the Narita International Airport outside of Tokyo on Tuesday (August 27).

The “Les Miserables” hunk looked happy to see a crowd of folks waiting to welcome him as he scurried off the plane and through the terminal, sporting a black t-shirt that showed off his beefy arms.

Hugh recently signed on to star in Madeleine Stowe’s directorial debut “Unbound Captives,” due in part to the fact that his 13-year-old son wants to see him play an all-American cowboy.

Jackman explained, "He knows all about this project and keeps asking me, 'When are we going to go and live with the American Indians?' He knows all the nuances - who the tribes are and where they lived. It's fascinating to me."

He added, "When you come to riding as an adult as I did... I really learned how to work with a horse in my 30s and was much more cautious than if I'd ridden as a boy or young man. But when you ride cutting horses every day for months, like I did in Australia, even falling off a few of them, I discovered that I genuinely loved being on a horse and now have to find a reason to get back out to the West and ride again."

Adele: March 2012 cover girl of Vogue

Adele posed for an elegantly put together Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott shot spread while talking about everything from ridding of the booze to her highly publicized vocal cord surgery.

Highlights from Adele’s interview are as follows.

On her ‘loud’ personality:
“I am quite loud and bolshie,” she says (British slang for unruly and clamorous). “I’m a big personality. I walk into a room, big and tall and loud.” Indeed. There is no doubt when Adele is in the building. The rule of thumb for protecting one’s vocal cords, she tells me, is: If people are more than an arm’s length away, you shouldn’t talk to them. “But I am like, Wah! Wah! Wah!,” she says, laughing. “It’s really bad.”

On giving up drinking last May:
“Don’t like drinking anymore. I think I got it out of my system. D’yaknowhaImean?”

On her vocal troubles:
“I’ve been singing properly every day since I was about fifteen or sixteen and I have never had any problems with my voice, ever. I’ve had a sore throat here and there, had a cold and sung through it, but that day it just went while I was onstage in Paris during a radio show. It was literally like someone had pulled a curtain over it.” She flew to London the next morning to see her doctor and was diagnosed with acute laryngitis. After a couple weeks’ rest, she continued her European tour, came to America, and then her voice went again in May. “That was a hemorrhage… a burst blood vessel on my vocal cord. That healed, I did a tour, and then it happened again at my best friend’s wedding on October 1.”

On getting support through her surgery from other artists:
“John Mayer had it done at the same time as I did and he really helped me be chilled out about it. Roger Daltrey’s had loads of stuff done; Steven Tyler reached out; Elton John. Lots of artists have had problems with their voices, but you don’t know about it. And they are still singing incredibly well in their 50s and 60s.”

On her six Grammy nominations:
“I burst into tears when I found out. And I would love, absolutely love, to win. This record is coming to an end, and that would be the final brick on it.”

Russell Crowe & Tennyson: Sydney Pair

Russell Crowe and Tennyson, 7, were seen walking from a park in Sydney, Australia on Sunday (August 25). Charlie, 9, wasn’t with them.

The Man of Steel star has been honored with his own Lego character.  The 49-year-old actor told the Herald Sun that it ranks up there with getting an Oscar. He stated, “It’s definitely on parity. My youngest son’s greatest joy in life is Lego mini-figures. So for me to present him with a Lego mini-figure of me was pretty cool.”

Crowe will make his directorial debut with The Water Diviner – a movie about an Australian father’s search for his two sons after the First World War battle of Gallipoli. He plays the lead role.

He said of the story, “It was a love at first page experience. There is a perspective in this movie that hasn’t been seen cinematically before and it’s deeply rooted in Australian culture. That’s really compelling for me — that here is this thing we think we know, but we only know it from our point of view. As one of the characters in this story says: “You invaded us. We didn’t invade you.” We have this whole culture grown up of heroism, centred around Gallipoli. And this experience has shaped Australia, shaped New Zealand. But we have never stood back to look at it from the Turkish perspective.”
